What kind of world would it be
To live under a tree
The shade
A canopy of green
Birds foraging
Singing
What is better than a tree
Limbs of love
Stretching to the heavens
Urging me to look up
Beyond my earth bound being

Anonymity
A fog of flesh and bone
Such a state is sought by many
The freedom to be
Without expectation
No breathing heavy air
And being greeted by
anticipation
The who’s who of the unknown
Quietly going about one’s business
I am a resident of such a state
I pledge its allegiance
And protect its constitution

Fifty Year Desire
I just got the notice for my 50th high school
reunion
I have attended a couple in the past
They may have been the 30th and 40th
They were ok
But after about an hour
I was ready to go back to my life
When I got the half century invite
For a few days I thought about attending
There are a few people it would be nice to see
Say hi
Hear a little about their lives again
But then I will want to go home
This does not seem like $40 well spent
I realized the deep seated appeal
The one perhaps worth $40
Was
Maybe the popular people
Would be interested in talking to me
It is amazing
After 50 years
There still is the desire
To be welcomed
By the once socially elite from my past
I have tucked that desire away again
It is easily done

Dormant
Dormant
Plants have a season
A time of rest
Perennials
And the trees
Show no life
Their skeletons
Void of leaves
Are stark
In the winter days
Beneath
Unseen
Their root
Holds on to life
We know the cycle
It is not a surprise
When the resurrection comes
The cycle of life
But when I am dormant
And my frame is bare
No fruit to show
I feel despair
Beneath
Unseen
My roots
Are shaken
Questions unsettle
Doubts disturb
I probe with questions
Analyze my past
Analyze my past
Unsure of what
Tomorrow holds
But when the probing
Reveals no reason
I find my rest
It is just a season
Dormant for a time
The cycle of life
